2022 Shadow Yoga Courses

Foundations of Shadow Yoga

This 2 day course will introduce the fundamentals of Shadow Yoga, as well as the warm-ups called “Dasha Chalanam” and “Jiva Chalanam.”  This course is a prerequisite for studying the 3 Prelude forms, which are Shadow Yoga's distinctive preparatory work involving strong leg work, circular movements, coordination of limbs, rhythmic breathing and bandha.


Open to all interested students, regardless of experience.

Guided Practice:  Dasha Chalanam & Jiva Chalanam

These sessions will begin with a brief Q&A followed by a guided practice of Dasha Chalanam and Jiva Chalanam. The intent of the 3 day series is to promote body memory, facilitate refinement, and encourage home practice.

 

Pre-requisite:  Foundations of Shadow Yoga

Introduction to Balakrama

This two day course will introduce the first Prelude: Bakakrama, which develops stamina, works the feet, and corrects the actions of the lower body through strengthening joint and bone work.

Prerequisite:  Foundations of Shadow Yoga or prior experience.  Must be proficient in Dasha Chalanam, Jiva Chalanam and the ending sequence of the Prelude. If a number of you require a refresher on these, I can schedule a crash course; please email me.

Guided Practice:  Balakrama

Each session will begin with a Q&A followed by a guided practice of Balakrama. The intent of the 4 day series is to promote body memory, facilitate refinement, and encourage home practice.

Prerequisite:  Introduction to Balakrama or prior experience.

The Complete Practice Format will introduce foundational seated asana vinyasa and closing activity. As we will utilize the Balakrama Prelude as the standing activity preceding the seated work, proficiency in Balakrama is a pre-requisite. 

First 2-hour Monday session on May 24th is a requirement for the remaining 3 Thursday sessions.

Live via Zoom, $80 for all 4; $30 for May 24th; $20 for subsequent Thursday Drop In. Highly recommended to take all 4 as progressive learning will take place.

Introduction to Chaya Yoddha Sancalanam

This two day course will introduce the 2nd Prelude: Chaya Yoddha Sancalanam, which develops sophisticated integration of the limbs with the aim of removing obstructions to the free movement of the life force. 

Prerequisite:  Foundations of Shadow Yoga or prior experience.

Please email me to discuss fulfilling the pre-requisite for the immersion which are: Chaya Prelude Complete Practice Format, or proficiency in both Bala & Chaya Preludes. Live outdoor location TBA. $150 for the weekend.

 

For those wanting a review of the beginning and ending sequences common to all Preludes, there will be a crash course on June 23 & 24, 7:00 to 8:30 EST via Zoom. $50 for both days.

2021 Specialty Workshops

Cultivating Our Wakefulness in Movement & Stillness

The spirit of this workshop series is uncovering and supporting our innate wisdom and wakefulness by bringing clear, kind attention to our inner environment in various guided activities. Movement activities will be guided in a meditative, rhythmic and deliberate pacing with gentle, moderate and advanced options to accommodate all levels of practitioners. Guided breathing, Yoga Nidra and seated awareness practices will further help to cultivate a state of consciousness that is both deeply relaxed and highly alert. The outcome of the combined practices will be an imprint of wakeful openness and natural awareness we can come home to at any moment.

Each session will have a different movement Focus as outlined below.
